BIOS as a Social
Business Enterprise. We are a social, mission driven
organization dedicated to promoting all that is green, healthy, holistic,
organic, sustainable and energy efficient. The concept includes both a
non-profit that uses the business to pursue our mission and a for-profit
whose primary purposes are social. Our goal is to accomplish missions that
are environmentally, socially and financially beneficial, this is
often referred to as a triple bottom line. Many commercial businesses
would consider themselves to have social objectives, but BIOS takes it to
the next level because our social and environmental objectives stay the
focus of our operation.
Rather than maximizing shareholder profits, the main aim of BIOS
is to generate profit to further our social and or environmental goals.
This provides consistent returns and increased brand loyalty by building
deep bonds of trust and respect from customers, employees, investors and
suppliers. The profit from BIOS will be used to support social
programs such as affordable housing, organic farming, alternative energy,
education and research, to name a few.
Many non-profits see social enterprise as a way to minimize their
dependence on charitable donations and grants while others view the
business itself as the vehicle for social change. BIOS was launched by
social entrepreneur Steve Schappert who wants to improve the common good
of people around the world for generations to come by teaching people to
do well by doing good. By relying on human nature instead of trying
to change human nature, we strive to teach people how doing the right
thing has short and long term benefits to them and their loved ones.
As the needs of others become as important as
the needs of the individual, the world gains the ability to change like
never before.
The BIOS Philosophy as defined

energy efficient living, and is closely related to the philosophies of
ethics,
logic and
aesthetics. The Bios Philosophy: “You can do well by doing good”, is
unique in that it teaches people that they can be successful and
prosperous while doing the right thing. You can help people, save the
environment and boost the economy, all at the same time. You can also
inspire others to do the same! As the needs of others become as important
as the needs of the individual, the world gains the ability to change like
never before. The BIOS Philosophy was first articulated by
Stephen Schappert
in 2004 relevant to healthy home building and has evolved to its current
definition.
